Anybody elses PC copy keep randomly freezing and ctrl+alt+del is the only option which gives an 'dirt 3 executable stopped working' message?

Edit: checking other sources and it's seems it's a DX11 problem, was present in Dirt 2 also, you need to edit one of the XML files to force DX9

Has anyone figured out how to use replays in online "Jam Session" mode? (Or can't they be done?)

no idea about the replays.

nipped onto an online hardcore mode for the achievement and god damn its fun! especially not having to worry about others using assists and chase cam to get an easier time. trailblazer with no HUD is tense I was leading one of the norwegian events most of the way and wrote off the car at the bobsleigh start about 5ft from the finish line. gutted.

so far really loving this game. unfortunately i've hit rank 30 and have yet to finish career mode (61% through). It is good that from the start you have cars that can be competitive online and aren't reliant on unlocking a specific car (dallenbach!) to be able to compete.

we need to have a jam session ( STEAM ) soon to do all the stupid game modes

What level is everyone playing on. I stumped for the highest (6 I think) and finding it tough to place first in the first few events, a second is my best so far, anyone else or am I just turd! Also, anyone playing with a wheel who is struggling with upshifts? Sometimes I need to upshift twice to get it to change gear.

Yeah, I'm running at level 5 and finding the ai variable--fairly easy to beat in rally and rally-cross, but harder in trailblazer, though that may be more about my ability. Tried rally-cross (my fave) at level 6 and beat it with a little more effort, but found they do seem to give up when passed.

No problems with shifting at all... I'm using my old and trusty logitech momo on the PC.

You are not a turd

i was finding the races too short for winning on 6 so i'm using 5 with all assists off. On the longer stages i can usually get 2nd but the shorter ones you are rarely left with a chance.

Using the MS wheel and haven't noticed an issue with upshifts that i know of.

Hope my Fanatec isn't playing silly buggers

I like online very much, but the RX's are just full of filthy drivers. Heh, makes me go around corners even faster in case someone tries it. Guess that's a good thing eh?

like magic says. wireless adapater for the pc. Having the xbox and pc it seemed daft to have to use seperate controllers for each so picked up the wireless adapter so i could use the pads on the racing games i played on the pc.

I got the wheel after but i took up the kind offer from pepsi knowing full well that 80-90% of the racing games would support it (shift 2 doesn't despite it being multi platform...). Its much easier to get trial versions on the pc

no, but the wheel with no FFB is still better on the pc than no wheel at all. Never going to have the cash for a fanatec and one of the logitech wheels wasn't an option due to no xbox support.

Be better off with an old PC Logitech Driving Force or the like then surely? Wont cost you much more than the price of that adapter from eBay and at least you have some 'feel'.

Although there is the fact of having 2 wheels laying around. Might upset the women in the house. But then if they dont like it throw out a couple hundred pairs of her shoes to make space

Edit: checking other sources and it's seems it's a DX11 problem, was present in Dirt 2 also, you need to edit one of the XML files to force DX9

Looks like I had this problem too. Not one crash with my ATI 4870 (dx10) and then crash central with the new Nvidia 570 (dx11). I did the XML edit for force DX9 and all's good. Interestingly I did a before and after benchmark.

1680x1050, DX11, Max everything except 2xMSAA = Avg 51.74 Min 40.26

1920x1080, DX9, Max everything except 2xMSAA = Avg 64.7 Min 39.1

My res changed due to new monitor, and saw the expected improvement in Avg FPS from the change to DX9, but still surprised the Min fps went down.

PC patch news

Quote:
We have a DiRT 3 PC patch scheduled for release in the near future, the following issues have been addressed by this patch:

• Time of day and weather options are now correctly saved within Jam Session save/restore slots.

• Fixed an occasional loading screen hang which could leave the player with a black screen.

• Fixed a soft lock when removing the Ethernet cable on some screens during a LAN session.

• Battersea Compound – Parking Lot environment updated to ensure that smash blocks are always present.

• Resolved specific instances of the player being able to drive into areas of crowd.

• Corrected a rare issue with online staggered start team events which could lead to incorrect team scoring.

• Fixed a very rare physics issue which could lead to the player’s vehicle falling through the world.

• Fixed two graphics issues which could lead to a crash when changing resolution or resizing the windowed game to a height of 0 pixels.

• Resolved an issue preventing Player 2 from re-binding their controls if using a keyboard within a split-screen event.

• Fixed an issue which, in specific circumstances, could lead to a spectator seeing incorrect progress during a multiplayer Transporter event.

• Minor corrections to track boundary and reset lines.

• Fixed an issue which will occasionally cause the green ‘infected’ effect to be applied to the player’s car during loading between Outbreak events.

• ‘World Record’ and ‘Personal Best’ symbols now correctly appear within all circuit-based time trial events.

• Correction to particle behaviour during high speed collisions, avoiding any instances of them spawning in the wrong direction.

• Minor finish line adjustments to avoid the possibility of bypassing them in some routes.

• Fixed an issue which lead to the driver’s hands clipping when in the interior camera ‘brace’ position.

• Resolved an issue which would occasionally prevent the ‘World Tour’ tetras from spinning within the front end.

• Resolved an issue which could lead to some vehicle cards flickering within the front end vehicle select screens.

• Adjusted a small number of text references and menu options for the ‘VIP Pack’, which should be referred to as the ‘Free Car Pack’ for PC.

• Various stability fixes.

Patches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game along with an additional patch for the PC are also currently in development, and further details regarding these will be provided at a later date once the patches have been completed and passed the submission process with Microsoft and Sony.

Please keep providing your feedback on any game issues you encounter, as this is of great help to the dev team when they attempt to replicate and resolve these issues in-house.
