Xbox One incompatible with current gen headsets

Xbox One Incompatible with Current Gaming Headsets - IGN

Well it seems 3rd party headsets like Turtle Beach, Astro etc will be incompatible with the new Xbox One.

Microsoft have changed the chat cable connector but hopefully it just means a new adapter will be needed, but this is Microsoft we're talking about

Quote:
Manufacturers will not only need to develop entirely new products for the new connection standard, but use licensing and authentication protocols from Microsoft, potentially driving up costs for consumers. The licensing program could also limit the variety and competitive nature of the accessory market since all manufacturers would be required to adhere to Microsoft's terms.

I hope they do make an adapter for Turtle Beach headsets as I don't want to be buying a new headset as well as well as the console because no doubt I'll have to buy a new VGA cable because I'll guess the old one will be incompatible as well:

For my scorch 360 it piggy backs a wired controller.
I'm hoping as they use a USB, the connection will be the same.
I'd hope that's the same for wired wheels too.

From the photos the XBox One is HDMI only. There's no AV port for analogue connectors. So ... no VGA or component connections.

HDMI to DVI *might* work, but you'll struggle to get audio unless you've got speakers with an optical input. Time to get saving for a screen with HDMI.

I'm sure that will change over time. I run my xbox to VGA output and sure that will be an option with so many using PC monitors.

That's not good news,I have astro a50's, which I'm not getting rid of anytime soon. Adaptors had better be forthcoming

Sorry Dan, can't see it. I'm going to stick my neck out and say it won't happen.

HDMI incorporates HDCP copy protection. Component or VGA don't. Allow analogue HD out on the XBox One and it will circumvent HDCP for the HDMI input. Content providers to companies like Microsoft and Netflix will be up in arms, as will the Cable/Satellite companies who suddenly find their STBs plugged into the XBox One.

Sony removed HD playback from Blu-Rays over component on the later PS3 models. Sky are also hurriedly trying to encourage users to stop using the early HD boxes with component out.

I'll put 20 on it being HDMI only, without third party converter boxes/hacks.

What about DisplayPort? That is better than HDMI

Possible. No connector on the XBox One's that have been displayed so far.

Displayport supports HDCP and it's higher bandwidth than HDMI so will easily support 4K. Off the top of my head the latest HDMI spec will support 4K, but only at 30Hz.

Most TV's have a PC VGA port and HDMI to VGA is freely available.

As for the people who have incompatible accessories...has always been the story with transitions. I only hope the guys who have forked out for Fanatec wheels can still use them!

My Astros won't be completely useless, I use them for a multitude of things, will see how voice comma are handled, may get away with using Kinect. Maybe an adaptor will be provided. Will see when more info comes out

My 2 year old Panny Plasma doesn't. The big brands appear to have dropped VGA/S-Video in the last couple of years in favour of an extra HDMI port or two.

A workable HDMI to VGA/Component format converter with HDCP is 45+, 100+ for something proven like the HDFury. Might as well invest the money into a new display with HDMI that will be guaranteed compatible.

I'm sure there are 5 cables on eBay ... but they won't work 99.9% of the time.

Cool

Have to though it Pains me agree with Burns here . I have always bought even though it costs more Tvs lcds and Monitors with Loads of connections as I have tons of older stuff I still use . Hell even My dell monitors that are 6 year old come with HDMI component s video RGB vga display port and divx conectors and are what I use for X Box or Pc leaving the TV free.
I would lay money that the Xbox one will use the latest version HDMI 1.4 connection Backward compatible to 1.2 .

Surely it has spdif though, so at least it might only be the voice comms part that doesn't work. (I have Astro a40's)

I can't wait until the hackers open up the console for Homebrew, though it might take a while i'm sure they will get there.

The post above yours had this in it.

Click the image to open in full size.

Power > HDMI (out) > SPDIF (optical out) > HDMI (in) > USB x2 > Kinect > ?? > RJ-45 (LAN)

Looks like a SPDIF there

Fair enough, my own fault for not clicking links.

S/Pdif is the third from left.

As Jam said, 3rd from left.

I'm not sure what the 2nd from right is?

2nd from right is IR Blaster. It's an infrared dongle that emulates a remote control so the Xbox can operate a Satellite/Cable box.

I guess the label says IR Out?

Yeah it does, i had no idea what it was though, good stuff.

Also, take a read of this if you get time (or i'll just paste the best bit):

Microsoft Trademarks New 'Per-View' Content System for Xbox One

"Based on the description of the technology developed for the patent it seems likely Microsoft will use the Kinect sensor, which is mandatory with Xbox One, to monitor the number of people present while watching a TV show, movie or music on the device. Presumably, should the content be consumed by too many people Xbox One owners will need to pay again. "

I seriously can't work out if that's meant to be satire, or real. It really wouldn't surprise me at this stage.

I thought M$ had already been in trouble for the Kinect being used in such a way??

Monitoring people that is.

I think the only way to stop to avoid this kinect monitering it to create a campaign of use.

Naked game play, its the only way. if you are shy just get a mask for tony blair/ or an ex us president would be good

I believe MS said that the Kinect needs to be connected at all times. So I'll do that, then put it in a box full of foam so it can't hear or see anything.

the only thing i believe, that would prevent them from doing this, is that people will just use other services instead.

Or just aim it at your smart phone/tablet playing a video on loop that is really annoying.... perhaps something like

I think the best thing to do is wait until E3 when they will actually show off games, not just how to watch TV. See if they look impressive, which Call of Duty didn't. I can't believe they were actually showing off character customisation as a next-gen feature.
