Just had a call from the radotherapy dept. at Ninewells Hospital, telling me that their scanner broke down this afternoo, and that as a consequence, my scan has been postponed.
'Stuff happens', as they almost say, and I'm a bit deflated now after having been all geared up n ready to go.
They'll be back in touch tomorrow or Wednesday to arrange another appointment - now they're asking 'would an appontment at Stracathro Hospital be better?'
Bleeding right it would be - it's only 4 miles away.

All this crap comes our way to test us Hoonta. I've no doubt you'll take this in your stride and with the good humour you have so far. Just remember you've got a group of blokes here who are wishing you the best.

I worked at Stracathro for 20 years, during which time I moved from living in the staff residence to that cultural backwater in the Angus foothills, commonly known as Brechin.

I considered telling the guys in Chop Shop via our private section, and letting word filter out from there, but that seemed like a bit of a cop-out. The hardest part (so far), has been telling my parents.
About this time last year a mate I'd known all my life was found by his racing bike at the side of the road having suffered a heart attack. After his funeral my parents and I headed off for a cuppy, and my old man said 'it's just not right a father having to bury his son'.
Telling my parents I had cancer was the hardest thing I've ever had to do - even seeing them now is a struggle. I want to avoid putting them into situations where they're going to see me in pain, but have to balance that against having them feel left out.

Just back from Stracathro Hospital, where I had an MRI scan this morning. Not a painful experience, but not a pleasant one either.
So now I wait for a date to go for surgery.

Never had an MRI, just a CAT scan. Am I right in thinking that's the one with lots of banging and claustrophobia?

Fingers crossed they get onto the next stage quickly and it all works out.

I still have the metallic taste from the contrast dye, which has also left me feeling nauseous. So no big deal really.
The waiting is becoming a drag though; I'm in a strange situation where I can see (sometimes feel), the tumours growing, and want them out, but feel like the turkey voting for Christmas
That said I've noticed I'm getting tired easily and can't concentrate for long - even tuning/testing has become a chore this week.

Mate now you are off on the sick do you get out much?
The tiredness could be down to lack of exercise and boredom. Perhaps drive out to a nice spot and spend the afternoons taking an invigorating walk, Sorry not the best of help but I feel compelled to offer anything I can think of.

Oh and a new hobby too, Something you always fancied doing but didnt. keep the mental edge and take your mind off of the worry.

I had a call from Ninewells around lunchtime today, letting me know that the surgeon/s now have the results of the scan, and want to see me at 9.10am Monday morning.
So I'm guessing that means surgery within the next two weeks.

Sounds like things are starting to speed up,i think we have had to wait about 6 weeks for an actual date for my mrs since seeing the surgeon, she has a provisional date for next thursday.
Please write down questions you want to ask them because we forgot to ask so much and ended up ringing them quite a few times with things we had forgotten to ask.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the advice Carlos - I'm also going to get in touch with the good people at the Macmillan Cancer Centre based in Ninewells.

I have to tell you guys that I've another lump forming below my jaw on the same side as the others, but no doubt this has already shown up on the scan I had.
That said, the encouragement and support I've had from you guys over the past few weeks has been much appreciated, and at times, brought an entirely different lump to my throat.
Take a bow gents.
