Slowing Down

Bit of an odd one last night - it seemed as though time was slowing down in a career race. (Actually, thinking about it, it was more like my car was slowing down, not time).

Probably best to explain what I mean. In free practice while tuning on Saturday and Monday, and running foggy conditions like in practice for the career race, I was running consistent 1:35s int he Ruf around Brands Hatch with a best of 1:35.4. Went into Time Trial, and with clear conditions I was able to improve to a 1:34.3 - all pretty much as I'd have expected.

Then last night, in practice with 29 other cars running on track and entering/leaving the pits, I could not get the car below 1:39.1 and the car felt lethargic and slow. It almost felt as though the physics had slowed, but not the in-game clock with them costing me 4 or so seconds each lap. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to affect the AI who were running 1:36's upwards. Hoping it wasn't just me returning to crap form, I completed practice then backed out to try Time Trial. First flying lap was a 1:35.0 and the car felt alive compared to how it had been in practice.

Has anyone else experienced this? It wouldn't be so annoying if the AI was slowed similarly, but as it stands it's making it very difficult to get on pace. If it's still the same tonight (and given the heat I could understand if the processor does have to back off a bit), I guess I'll have to turn some of the visual effects off for qualifying and see if that helps some.

I read on the project cars forum something about that TT times are faster due to the tyres being at optimum temperature and pressure to give everyone a level playing field. But it doesn't really explain the vast time differences

Had another go last night and still couldn't break out of the 1:39's. So I tried turning all all the fancy visuals, and got down to a 1:38.2 with what felt like a really good lap. After that, I had a brief run in free practice, again in fog, and in 3 laps I had a 1:34.4.

Sadly, it does look like the extra processing required for 30 cars in the session is taxing the XB1 beyond its limits. Fingers crossed the extra performance from Patch 2.0 improves things.

Not an option given that it was a career (well, invitational) race. In the end, I whacked the AI down to 60% to compensate, ended up second in qualifying and ended up in a good battle with three BAC Monos in the heavy rain and fog before getting the win by about a second and a half.

The times may have been slow, but someone at SMS certainly knows a bit about English weather in February
