Great when you get load of toys?

What are you doing for a CPU cooler, the temptation to up the multiplier will be too great and the stock cooler is not overly efficient?

Does look like quite a bit of case cooling and sexy blue anodised heat sinks though

Scuppy - you sure you dont want a little more storage??

I didn't want to get the BeQuiet uber beast pro heatsink incase the case didn't have the depth as i wasn't sure how thick the acrylic on the window was but its actually mounted on the outside so shouldn't be a problem. I'll be watercooling it eventually but once i've got side panel on and measured the clearance i'll order something nice and shiney (free postage with OcUK is a bonus)

i was tempted to buy 2-3 more and put it into a RAID 5 configuration but that is just a luxury. will keep it as it is for now

Not that familiar with the current cases that use bottom mounted power supplies. This Silverstone appears not to have any front intake fans, but 2x on the back panel, 2x on the top and another 2 blowing across the hard drives which strikes me as a little unusual.

Not had the lid off my PC for a while, but I think that's got a single 120mm front and back.

the case is ideally designed to be used for watercooling which is the next step for me once i've bought a graphics card in next month or two.

you are right though, compared to 'new' cases there isn't much intake air flow, but then this case is older than myles and has only gone up in price as its still so epic!!

I cannot tell you how good it feels having a 5mm sheet of aluminium for main part of the shell. not tinny or cheap feeling at all, very solid.

To be honest with that many extractor fans the lack of front intakes is a moot point. I'm sure that case has plenty of perforations to let air in the front.

Looks like a solid spec scuppy, I'd go for something similar

I've done the whole water cooling thing in the past although currently have the Corsair H50 closed loop one for my cpu, just to make things a little simpler

Are you waiting for a new graphics card to come out or just letting your bank balance to recover?

fear not, my shuttle PC has a DVI output but its running off my ATi 3850 atm, so i'll take that out and use for testing.

its a mix of both really, if i bought a card know it'd be around 250 but with the new AMD 7000 series rumoured to be in production as i type i might has well wait and see if the 6970 drops in price or pick up a decent 7000 series card.

I'll run it with the 3850 until BF3 is here though. i have no rush =)

Ditto, I'm waiting to see what the new 7000 series end up being like, and the AMD "Bulldozer" cpu's too.

i needed a new PC as this one isn't slow but limited to what you can do with it (upgrade wise), plus with my sister on it doing her photography stuff it'll be nice to get home from work and not have to kick her out

finally the rock has returned....
Thread Starter

my be-Quiet Dark Rock advanced arrived and ONLY just squeezed in. 2mm to spare from the top of the heat-pipes to the window. infact, had the window been mounted on the inside i'd be sending it back for a smaller CPU heatsink

todays progress of dremel and filing action now means my PSU can sneak round the back out of sight... see the cable management and take note

3 hours of OMG why do i bother!? although i'm now tempted to by a cable braiding kit and set to work on that but maybe not until i need to take it apart for waterblocks etc etc....

last thing i need to do now is open it up and put the GFX cable back behind the mobo tray as it appears to have gotten loose from a cable tie

since last update:

a guy on the OcUK forums kindly offered to make me a custom Acrylic SSD mount so will post a pic of that in use once i have a long enough SATA3 cable lol.
Click the image to open in full size.

Also thought while i'm signed off work i'd spend some money so bought myself the HD6950 (2GB Flex version) from Sapphire.

Should be here tomorrow so i'll take a pic to compare difference in size to the old 3850 lol.

with the purchase i have two options:
1) sell it and get an AMD 7000series or the nVidia card before BF3 depending on the benchmarks.
2) buy another 6950 and CrossfireX them =)

and what is to come... I've been looking at getting the insides Anodized as the whole case (minus the Motherboard Tray) is Aluminium but the place 25minutes away in Marlow had a fire and aren't taking on any orders =(
so will either wait a while or get it powder coated. I've been recommended a place in North London so i could swing by there on next visit to my sister at uni.

example of what it could look like: View image: tj07b05insidereddi5

Nice.

Apologies for the hijack but I figured this wasn't worth it's own thread...

Planning ahead on the road to i5 goodness I got as far as swapping my existing PC into a new case today. The panel with the switches and USB ports on the old case packed up after the clips broke while being taken to a LAN session the other week. Having to hotwire it to turn the damn thing on was getting on my wick!

Did it properly and bought a nice CoolerMaster CM-690 II.

lol, i'm not rich by any means. but spend my money else where. don't really drink so while many my age are out getting wasted and pissing their money away literally i'm saving it for when my car goes wrong lol and what i can spare i put into going snowboarding, surfing and then my pc.

and SSDs are only 2 1/2" and a regular HDD is 3 1/2"

the big downside in one sense with the TJ07 is that it only has 5 1/4" drive bays so it would require an adaptor within an adaptor which would look awful.

there are hard drive cages in the bottom but only hold 3 each and you have to remove the whole thing and becomes a faff. also with 2 HDD's in there already its pretty cramped and like having my SSD on show a bit more not that many people see it or know what it is

Did you need to buy any extension leads? I forgot to mention that with older PSUs and older cases mounting them in the top they had rather short power leads to the motherboard.

luckily my galaxy was just long enough to route behind the motherboard tray and over the top but there was only a bit of slack left in it.

Nope.

The 12V at the top left was a bit close with about an inch of play on it. Everything else has plenty of spare cable now neatly-ish coiled up behind the motherboard. It really is a well designed case.

The OCZ 400W PSU is about 12 months old and came with very long braided cables. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box! They made a right mess of the old case, but make perfect sense now. The old 650W el-cheapo PSU (bought as a stop gap) started intermittently giving out of spec voltages after a couple of years so I got the OCZ when it popped up on offer.

Are you on BT as well as OcUK, perchance?

Will you be OCing that CPU? I mean, it is the perfect overclocking CPU at the moment I hear
