There was something instinctively right about the way that car drove. The steering feel was as near perfect as I've encountered.

Build quality was a bit suspect though, electrics especially.

I think i've finally settled on the car i'm going to go for, bit out of my price range at the minute but should come down within my 2 year(ish) target.

135 is awesome. There are rumours they detuned it as it would kill the M1......

I've seen the videos with the BMW performance exhaust, but i think once i'd bought the car i'd quickly be saving up money for the inevitable replacement of the turbos. From what i gather they are about $900 a pop and the engine has to come out to fit them. so converting to proper money, replacing both turbos would cost about 2,000 with labour

But that sound... i don't think you can put a price on driving around and making that sort of noise.

As for de-tuned... it's a turbo so i'd definitely be forking out for a re-map

The later cars were single turbo too. 2009 on I think.

If you've got a spare grand..... the bmw performance steering wheel is also epically good! G-meters, lap timers, gear change lights etc etc etc

Welcome to the world of never being allowed out of a junction, stolen parking spaces and general ignorance. People will hate you

Hopefully my Karma points are adding up. I do quite often let people out ahead of me if they are turning left, but if they are turning right then no unless the road is clear on the opposite side.

I even make sure i keep junctions and crossings clear, see so many people these days blocking stuff.

Hopefully people will be nice to me

Invisible as in people pull out in front of you and cut you up? Or as in they don't draw much attention?

I have a 120d sport 2005 model so pre SE/M sport variant. 176bhp 0-60 is around 7.8. Very swift car....drinks diesel (35mpg at best) and no space in back for anyone behind my seat..(I'm 5' 11"). Boot is poor and carries nothing!...beware you get no spare with BMW. I'm pleased in general with mine and I can still smoke the tyres if need be as well as kick the **** out on demand (with traction on).
Nice to give the GTi lads a two finger salute when showing off!!
Top end aint much though Ive seen 130 out of mine but the car lifts at 110...and gets a bit too light for my liking.

How does it sound? I like the torque of a diesel (did my driving lessons in one) but i haven't really heard a nice sounding diesel yet, the clickety clackety would do my nut in i think. I do like the subtle whistle of a turbo diesel (foot to the floor), just the underlying engine sound grates on me.

Nice and quiet...turbo can only really be heard in quiet times with window down. Even from outside the car the engine is quieter than regular gas burners.
