Gran Turismo 6 on PS3 this year (rumour)

Posted this in the PS4 thread yesterday but thought it deserved it's own thread!

Quote:
We knew Polyphony has been working on Gran Turismo 6 since 2011 at least, meaning we had our hearts set on playing it shortly after the launch of the PS5. Turns out we may get the game a little earlier, as in this year on the PS3.

This is according to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Senior Vice President Michael Denny, speaking with Silicon Republic (audio here): "Look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year, like The Last of Us, like Beyond, GT6...."

Sony confirms that GT6 is in development and has been since 2010, but offers no additional comment about a release this year.

Gran Turismo 6 'on PS3 this year,' Sony exec says | Joystiq

Given the longevity of games like GT6, I'm not sure I'd want to keep my PS3 all setup once the PS4 is out.

I'd expect a multi-platform release, Playstation 4 is too close now for it not to make an appearance.

Coding for 2 different architectures will be expensive, but they'll need a launch title like this on PS4, i can't see them making people wait 3+ years to get GT7 or whatever the next iteration is after this one.

Can't help thinking this is likely to be a slipped train of thought - i.e. he started listing games out this year regardless of console. As screaming said, it's a lot of work programming for two consoles, and surely it makes sense to launch the new version of one of your big franchises on the new console only to try to sell it.

the short wheel base quattro looks the nuts. Will probably be the game they wished for with version 5. Ps4 out before crimbo in US and Japan?

A comment on the official Playstation you tube channel seems to suggest it will be released for PS4 as well. PD doing weird things again. I've seen a comment that someone has worked out only 7 new tracks and 200 new cars. No idea if standards are still present. Completely new physics engine though with input from a tyre company and after market suspension company. Interesting to see if PD make another mess of GT6. My guess is they will. Japanese develops seem to have been left in the 90's when it comes to games.

Also 7 new tracks is better than forza & no doubt they'll be some quality real world tracks brought in & spa will be integrated as standard (hopefully) !

GT (PS) as a game is great, however Forza (xbox) was just done better to allow players to play, or at least it was for FM2 LOL.

I haven't been on my PS3 in over a year but stuff like private group voice chat etc is what killed the fun for me.

i remember each time a GTt game came out, it felt like it was getting close to real life visuals...

this time, it just looked like a lightly polished version of what already exists...

Insert facepalms below...

Quote:
Fansite GTPlanet has managed to shed some new light on the subject in an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi from the SIlverstone event. Unfortunately, the answer may not be what the majority of us were hoping for: "We won’t be making all the Standard cars from GT5 into Premium models, and we won’t make all of the GT5′s Standard cars fully 'Premiumized,'"” Yamauchi confirmed.

Veni Vidi Vici - Gran Turismo 6 will still have Standard cars without interiors

Japanese developers have just lost the plot. They have no idea what the rest of the gaming world wants or expects. This 'make do' attitude obviously works in Japan but the rest of the world look at them and just think 'what a bunch of amateurs'.

The only reason I would have bought a PS4 would be GT. However, even if GT6 is released on PS4 I really can't see myself buying one now. So much fail.

GT6 is going to feature the Goodwood Hill Climb, Looks like a blast.
Gran Turismo 6 blurs virtual and reality at Goodwood - Telegraph

With Forza 5 worrying me and all the issues around GT6 being a bit meh too I think I may end up having to go to pc based racing.
My thought trail is if Forza 5 is bad it will push me to consider PS5, If GT is poo too then I better start saving up for a whole rig!

PCars I keep hearing has spongy handling but could save the Xbone of they pull it out the bag, (for me that is)

Anyone else unsure where they are going for the next gen?

I'm sorry but the dev time PD runs at is a joke! Turn 10 just flops it out and beats them around the face each time. 6 years on average it takes them to make each version and since GT2 - GT3 I have not seen 6 years worth of transition. Gran Turismo is great...or was great till games like Forza came along and made it look very old, very fast.

Probably still be Forza for me, but for the first time I'm looking at GT6 as an alternative. Three reasons for that - firstly FM5 trailers seem to be majoring on style rather than substance; secondly, to quote Big Mooing Cow from another site "Nothing dampens enthusiasm like a big price tag"; and thirdly, if I'm going to jump ship to another console, the start of a new generation is the time to do it.

Despite all that, I expect I'll still end up with Forza 5, but won't be jumping in straight away at launch - maybe after Christmas.

You'll be playing GT6 on a last gen console. Still, at least it will be cheap.

Yes, looking at the articles again, I may have imagined the simultaneous PS3/PS4 release of GT6
