great news Stu,

take it easy and hope all goes well with the stitches coming out, weird feeling when they remove them.

I got the stitches (approx 100), out this afternoon, and tbh there were only a couple that tugged a bit.
I also got to see the results of my bit of nip n tuck for the first time too. The profile of my face has hardly changed at all - well apart from the left ear being about 1/2" lower than the right, and realising that I'll be shaving part of my temple from now on.
The surgical team have done a cracking job, and are themselves extremely pleased with the results.
A new bandage is in place, but comes off again in less than a week.
The surgical team will have a meeting once the paathology results from the tumours come through, and from those will decide whether I need radiotherapy.
Chemotherapy is a must apparently, but like I say the timetable has yet to be decided.

Another small but successful step on a long road mate. It's good news that everything has gone as planned or better so far. Here's hoping the rest of the steps are just as successful

Hoonta your strength amazes me, glad to see your sense of humour has remained, having been through major surgery myself , I know how important it is to have friends and family around, or just someone to speak to from time to time. I hope, no... I pray that the lesser course of treatment is needed and that you make one hell of a recovery.
On a side note though give yourself plenty of time to adjust sight-wise before you even think about putting Forza in the tray. just get your self well please.

Forza disc went in earlier this week, and I've already set a coupla pb's - nowt spectacular mind, but a inside the top 4k @Ladera Short Rev in a D class Beetle. I also did a few laps around Mugello Short with Spacejock n pepsighost in pepsi's Megane Trohy car (replay on my sf).
I'm going to leave the thread title as is - I'm not one for tempting fate.

Thanks Toxic, it's good knowing I have your support during all this malarky. That goes for everyone who has taken the time to post in this thread.
No doubt there will be difficult times during radio/chemo treatment, and knowing I have you guys willing me back to full health is something I can take strength from.
I doubt if I would've coped without having you guys there to lean on.

I'm sure you would have coped, just in a different way and with other friends.

Great news that you're on the mend so quickly. No doubt there will be downs along the way as well, but you're certainly flying out of the blocks so far

Today at Ninewells I got the results of the pathology testing done on my tumours. The upshot of which, is that both tumours had sent out tendrils into surrounding tissue.
The only way to treat this with any degree of success, is to first use radiotherapy at the original site of the tumours, and secondly with chemotherapy at a systemic level (that's whole body to you n me).

With this new knowledge, I return to Ninewells tomorrow morning, for a casting to be made of my face, from which a plastic mask will be made, so that the radiotherapy can begin.
Once made the mask will be beeded so that only targeted areas (where the tumours were), are struck.
In my case both radio/chemotherapy will begin; I'll be treated with radiotherapy daily for 6 1/2 weeks, with one/two days a week receiving chemotherapy.

I've been warned that chemotherapy can have a negative effect on kidney function, and that this will mean regular fluid intakes, and subsequent flushing.

I've also been told to expect severe nausea, hair loss (like I give a toss ), and that due to the prolonged nature of the treatments, fatigue is likely to become an issue.
I can't remember if I mentioned it already or not, but the round trip from home >Ninewells >home, is around 60 miles, and it would be too much to expect my olds to play taxi for that amount of time So to give them a break from the travelling and expense incurred, patient transport will be provided for an as yet, undecided number of journeys.

So a lot to take in today as you can imagine.

You seem like a genuinely positive person in the face of adversity Hoonta, a trait we could all do with at times, and this i'm sure will serve you well through your treatment. I used to work on an oral cancer clinic some years ago (not as medical staff though), and the positivity of the majority of patients in what many would see as adversity was uplifting to myself and many of the other staff, hopefully you can have a similar effect on those around you if they require it.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to you through your treatment and subsequent recovery.

I can't believe how well you are coping, h00nta. I nearly died five years ago, and there isn't a day goes by, that it doesn't "haunt" me. Maybe, that's the difference between you and me. You see the adversity as a challenge. I saw mine as a road-block.........

More power to you, my friend. And remember: Through adversity, there is redemption : )

Best of luck on this Stu.

The chemo will hit you hard, so it's good to see you've got the positive outlook which will help. Fingers crossed it all works out - sounds like the hospital has things well set up for you.

Tomorrow I'm off to Ninewells hosp. again. This time I'm having all my teeth removed. They have to go because there's a fair bit of gum disease, and with the radiotherapy being targeted along my jawline, my teeth would be liable to fall out - risking infection.
I'll be without teeth until well after the radio/chemo treatments are finished, as the gums will need time to settle down afterwards. Only then can we sit down n talk about dentures/implanted replacements.
I'll be in hosp. for most of next week, as I'm having a stomach feeding tube fitted on Wednesday - something I'll need as the chemo phase wears on.
So a few months of liquid diet lie before me - no steaks, no burger rolls, and deffo no pizza.

LOL - you sap Bryan.

All joking aside, the real pain in this is going to take it's toll both mentally and physically, and it's just starting.
I'm expecting to become less involved with gaming in general, and ny involvement here will likely decrease as the process goes on.
But don't be fooled - there will be various times through every day, when I'll be thinking of this place, and of the characters here.
And when I do, I'll also take strength from the support and encouragement I've received here in this thread.

Sounds like it's getting to the worst bit for the next few months, but you'll get through it with your attitude I'm sure.

Really don't envy you losing the teeth (oddly enough it's probably my most common nightmare) so can't really say more than wishing you the best for it.
