Another sad day for motorsport

Sean Edwards, son of Guy Edwards the F1 driver who pulled Nikki Lauda out of his burning wreckage
died today.

BBC Sport - British racing driver Sean Edwards killed in crash in Australia

British racing driver Sean Edwards has died in a crash at the Queensland Raceway in Australia.

The 26-year-old, born in London, was a passenger in a Porsche which hit the barriers during a private test session.

Edwards is currently leading the Porsche Supercup championship, a series which supports Formula 1 races.

Played the part of his father in the F1 film Rush

The news report said the car was crushed to half its original size, even with a roll cage etc,that is ****ing scary. The speed they must have that wall......

It was indeed. The pics I saw in the morning showed the front wheels were where the driver and passenger sit. It took 3 hours to extract the driver.

Does the Porsche have its fuel tanks on the front of the car? I remember seeing this crash and thinking the same regarding the tanks. I guess with no engine there too there cant be as much crash protection surely?

*The drivers survived this crash. Ferrari driver had burns but recovered and sued the track for not reacting quick enough.

Don't know for sure about the new ones, but the 1980's ones did as far as I know. The theory being... keep the fuel tank as far away from the main source of ignition (engine) as possible.

Sean died on the 15th Oct, Dan Wheldon on the 16th (2011).
