Question New Xbox Rumblings

Thought I'd kick this off as the rumour drums are starting to beat louder.

Six years in, a new Nintendo on the way and Sony in a world of pain, is it time??

nice piece to start here

Let the discussions begin........

not by me...

The time is starting to feel right though, the only downer, being stuck in the middle of the worst recession in living memory.

once GOW3 lands, what next. A remake of Halo? Doesn't really cut it. All MS's AAA games need new hardware and soon. Being of the older generation i'd said to myself this gen was the last for me. But......

They can take a running jump lol !

More than happy as I am, no killer games to tempt me and absolutely no reason to upgrade.
2012 launch ? As if.

Well honestly come on, what have they got?

All my killer games for this year are coming on 360, whats the 'big game' thats supposed to tempt me ?

E.g. Halo 3 was announced for 360, before the 360 launched..... Same Forza 2.....

granted but do you think the 360 has the legs to go round the block again, so to speak, with FM5, GOW4, Halo whatever etc..

I wouldn't think so, FM5 would be on the new console for sure.

After all seeing as T10 are part of microsoft they would get hardware info before others did, therefore being able to have FM5 as a launch title or whatever.

No and thats the point

All the top AAA titles you mention have a new one this year on 360, theres no way they will have the next title ready for next year.

One exception is bungie who are rumoured to be working on their ONI sequal however it shapes up

Well I wouldn't get your hopes up about a new MS console at this years E3. Everything has been pointing to a 2014-2015 window for new MS and Sony consoles and not seen anything to change my mind about that.

We've already had threads about whether we need a new xbox so I'm not going to join in on that one

i'm on my third Xbox and the wife would be none to pleased if i forked out £400 on a new one next year.

All i'm suggesting in MS possibly need to keep a very close eye on the new Nintendo ie if its capable of running the new breed of FPS full tilt, knowing what sluts the hardcore are, they will not be able to resist (i can't heelp it, its so beautiful ). Or maybe thats just me

bonus point for naming film quote.

5th for me (see theres 5 reasons not to buy the new one lol)

Nintendo's new machine will be very powerful I feel, with the Wii they captured the casual market but how many of those casual will fork out for the new one ? They have to recapture the hardcore I think.

Only bad point for me on any new console is I abhor motion capture/sensor like Kinect/Wii/Motion etc and thats the direction the new stuff seems to be going.

"<Some bloke we know at a computer shop> have told Develop they <are guessing> the console to be fully unveiled at E3 2013, months before its release."

FTFY!

All baloney, and frankly who cares. With the games we have ATM and Kinect just getting going MS would be fools to announce anything, oh wait hang on.....

More rumours.

Quote:
Gadgets don’t have long lifespans, they will always be upgraded to the brightest and newest version of their former glory. Gaming consoles are no exception, so the shelf life that Xbox 360 has been able to maintain these past fews years is pretty impressive. All that’s about to change, according to the new report that says Microsoft is planning a next-gen console launch in 2013.

According to GameSpot, some Microsoft employees have even updated their LinkedIn accounts to say that they are working on hardware, with Jeff Faulker listed as creative director for the “Xbox Next Gen.” In the same report, Lionhead is working on “Fable Next” for the new console, EA and Crytek are rumored to be in development stages as well.

I can see the new xbox being announced at E3 2012 and then being released before xmas, its exactly what they did with the 360.

As for those saying they are happy....have you seen how much some games are downgraded for consoles? its a large difference! Especially with the Anti Aliasing....forza 4 with nice clean lines would look sensational.

I'm quiet happy with the way it looks now, would not bother me if it stayed just as it is

Codename Loop

Apparently the next Xbox console has the codename Loop.

To kick things off technology blogger 'MS Nerd' has made some comments about the new console. Some of this is stating the obvious;
  • Faster
  • Smaller
  • Cheaper
I presume that last one is relative to the launch price of the 360.

Some of the more interesting points he makes include;
  • Based on modified Windows 9 core
  • Custom-made ARM-based processor and dedicated cores for graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors.

It means the operating system at the heart of the new Xbox is expected to run Windows 9. The interface they decide on with then run on top of that.

The only impact of this I'd imagine is easier porting between PC's and Xbox's, not that they probably don't share a lot already. Maybe cheaper for development too, sharing development with Windows.

Wiggy, M4RINE, Bailey, Pirate - Hope you don't mind me removing your posts, was going rather OT.

Well actually I do, but I aint going to cry over it.

To me 'next 360/console' talk is a bit irrelevent in the end, I've been through so many console launches and vaporware rumours down the years until someone from MS themselves confirms it its all to be taken with a pinch of salt.

But, to be fair on you I'd like to see:
  • 'Next gen' disc storage, i.e. NO CLOUD GAMING/STORAGE
  • Non compulsory use of Kinect/motion capture - dont force me to use a controller that I dont like
  • Better integration with other services e.g. iPlayer

Other than that the usual 'twice as powerful' processing etc
