Lotus 98T Renault Turbo

The invitational has decreed it's time to run the mad '80's turbo Formula One car. Quite a bit of grip in the corners, less traction than you'd expect from the big rear tyres and the whole experience is dominated by the massive turbo complete with lots of lag. I have to admit that I chickened out on this one and turned down the wastegate pressure which means that I'm "only" getting about 860-870 bhp, but at least it's less likely to spin up and spit you out.

Anyway, this was what I ended up with for Donington GP - enough for 6th in the race but if you're brave enough to up the wastegate pressure you can probably do better.

A few relatively minor changes for the Zolder race. Be warned that this one rains part way through, and you'll need to up the tyre pressure by ~0.25-0.3 bar with the wets or they'll burn up in 3 laps (Patch 9.0).

Changes from the Donington setup are in bold red

Tyres & Brakes
Tyre Compound: Automatic by Weather
Front Tyre Pressure: 1.07 Bar
Rear Tyre Pressure: 1.10 Bar
Brake Pressure: 90%
Brake Balance: 57%
Brake Duct: 50%
Traction Control Slip: 15%

Aero & Chassis
Front Downforce: 12.0
Rear Downforce: 12.0
Longitudinal Weight Bias: 61.0%

Alignment
Steering Ratio: 16.1:1
Caster: 4.5 deg
Front Camber: -2.4 deg
Rear Camber: -1.5 deg
Front Toe-in: -0.3 deg
Rear Toe-in: +0.2 deg

Suspension
Front Ride Height: 65mm
Rear Ride Height: 69mm
Front Spring Rate: 54N/mm
Rear Spring Rate: 66N/mm
Front Sway Bar: 70N/mm
Rear Sway Bar: 50N/mm

Dampers
Front Bump Stop: 10mm
Rear Bump Stop: 0mm (As far right as possible)
Front Slow Bump: 3500 N/m/s
Rear Slow Bump: 5000 N/m/s
Front Fast Bump: 1440 N/m/s
Rear Fast Bump: 2800 N/m/s
Front Slow Rebound: 6200 N/m/s
Rear Slow Rebound: 7000 N/m/s
Front Fast Rebound: 2500 N/m/s
Rear Fast Rebound: 3800 N/m/s

I won't bother with the Spa setup since it didn't seem to work particularly well, so onto Oschersleben. That tune worked pretty well at Sonoma too with just a very minor gearing tweak, and it's the Sonoma one listed below.

Changed from Zolder are in bold green

Tyres & Brakes
Tyre Compound: Automatic by Weather
Front Tyre Pressure: 1.20 Bar
Rear Tyre Pressure: 1.16 Bar
Brake Pressure: 90%
Brake Balance: 57%
Brake Duct: 42% (keep at 50% for Oschersleben)
Traction Control Slip: 15%

Aero & Chassis
Front Downforce: 12.0
Rear Downforce: 12.0
Longitudinal Weight Bias: 61.0%

Alignment
Steering Ratio: 16.1:1
Caster: 4.5 deg
Front Camber: -2.4 deg
Rear Camber: -1.5 deg
Front Toe-in: -0.3 deg
Rear Toe-in: +0.2 deg

Suspension
Front Ride Height: 65mm
Rear Ride Height: 69mm
Front Spring Rate: 51N/mm
Rear Spring Rate: 66N/mm
Front Sway Bar: 70N/mm
Rear Sway Bar: 50N/mm

Dampers
Front Bump Stop: 10mm
Rear Bump Stop: 0mm (As far right as possible)
Front Slow Bump: 3500 N/m/s
Rear Slow Bump: 4600 N/m/s
Front Fast Bump: 1440 N/m/s
Rear Fast Bump: 2800 N/m/s
Front Slow Rebound: 6200 N/m/s
Rear Slow Rebound: 7000 N/m/s
Front Fast Rebound: 2500 N/m/s
Rear Fast Rebound: 3800 N/m/s

Differential
Accel: 22%
Decel: 50%
Limited Slip Preload: 100 N-m
Radiator: 65%

Gearing
Final Drive: 3.88
1st: 3.08
2nd: 2.17
3rd: 1.79
4th: 1.52
5th: 1.31

Engine
Fuel Load: 26l
Qually Load: 15l
Wastegate: 4.60 Bar

As you can see, only minor changes here as the Zolder tune worked quite well (at least until it rained).

Last race of the series, and I finally got a low downforce setup I was happy with. Shame driver error meant I crashed on the last corner of the last race and so missed out on the championship But this is probably about as good as I can get it for a low downforce track, Monza GP in this case.

Changes from the Sonoma tune are in bold dark grey

Front Camber: -2.4 deg
Rear Camber: -1.5 deg
Front Toe-in: -0.3 deg
