BMW 320 Turbo Group 5

This one definitely has a hint of evil about it - be careful on cold tyres and don't accelerate had on cold tyres until you're in a straight line or the turbo will kick in (after about 2 months of lag) and kill you.

In truth though, this is a bit of a safety first tune, and you may feel confident enough to balance things slightly more rearwards if you're feeling brave. Similarly, I can't be sure that you can't close the radiator down or increase the wastegate pressure some more, but the opening in the tune seems safe as far as I can tell. I wouldn't mess too much with the brake duct though as that seems to give good temperatures.

As for the performance? It's tuned for Hockenheim Short since that's what the invitational threw at me. Running the time trial there I got a 1:03.896 (best time was 1:03.3) which looks reasonably decent for me.

[EDIT: Updated with new pass through career, changes are in bold with the old struck through. It's a modification of the Donington tune from later in the thread.]

It's the first of these historic touring cars I've tried, so definitely a first effort here. With a bit more grip and a lot more bite than the road cars I've done so far, it took a bit of driving first to work out where I needed to work on the tune.

Got to Catalunya National, and had to make a couple of mods, firstly because this track is bumpier, and secondly because you get to a higher speed down the straight and I was topping out.

I got a 1:13.4 in qualifying for the Career Race, now off to try the Time Trial

EDIT: Revised tune following the second pass through Career. It's a bit faster now too Changes from before are in red, old settings struck through.

Seems this is one of those cars which needs amending for each track. So, if anyone is planning on doing the 320 series, this is the tune I used for Imola. Compared to the original, it needed to ride the kerbs better and needed a higher top speed. That speed meant the gearing was wrong for some of the corners so I did need to play around with the gears a bit.

Changes from the first tune are in bold red

Tyres & Brakes
Compound: Automatic by Weather
Front Tyre Pressure: 1.42 Bar
Rear Tyre Pressure: 1.30 Bar
Brake Pressure: 85%

One other thing to watch out for, and it is quite annoying. It seems as though the tune wouldn't load up when only saved for Imola and I had to keep re-inputting it (it kept uploading the original). In the end, I saved it for all tracks except Catalunya and Hockenheim and it worked, but it does appear as though Imola loads the tune from another track. So beware...

Another one of those cars which I'm revisiting since restarting the game. This tune is for Snetterton 300, and I've gone for something which is controllable and able to be chucked into most corners - you can even push into the two which catch everyone out. Just be wary of that turbo on cold tyres and you should be ok.

To give an idea of times, I got high 1:48's around Snet in Time Trial as well as qualifying and in the race for career.

All changes from the tune in the first post are bold

Yet another tune for this one - it certainly seems to need minor amendments between tracks. In this case, I've tuned it for Donington GP. I started with the Snetterton tune (post above) and changed to suit the higher rear downforce and more flowing nature of the track compared to Snetterton.

All changes from the tune above are in bold orange

Happily, this tune also worked very well at Silverstone International - the only change I made for Silverstone was to change the 5th gear ratio to 0.96 as it was topping out at the end of the Hanger Straight.

Sticking with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory, there's only changes to the gearing for Oulton Park International. I've also reduced the fuel load a little since I was using less fuel than predicted, but obviously the amount you put it will depend on the length of the race you're running.

This is a good tune Spiny. I ran the Donington tune last night and its very good, easy to drive and very stable.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. I generally aim to get my tunes stable and easy to drive rather than out-and-out fast on one lap, so I'm pleased that I've managed that with this one.

Just amended the Hockenheim Short tune now I've hit it again in career. Easier to driver than before and quicker than it was - I've shaved the best part of a second a lap off where I was before.

And another update for one of these tracks, this time for Catalunya National.

Managed to knock almost a second off my previous best. Probably some is down to improved driving, but I think a bit is down to the tune too.

Even in my hands, this is capable of a 1:12.6, so I suspect it can get onto the first leaderboard page in the hands of someone fast.

Decided to try out a low downforce tune for rerunning Imola. It turned out to be a couple of seconds a lap quicker than I was getting before, although I don't know how much of that is down to improvements in the nut behind the wheel (I suck at Imola). Got into the low 1:46's now with this one, although I can see the potential for a mid 1:45, and better drivers can probably go quicker.

I've left the previous Imola tune in case people prefer a high downforce setup there. Changes from the original setup are in bold green
